Production Research: Glamour Magazine Target Audience

The Glamour Magazine is aimed at millennials, focusing on topics such as fashion and celebrities. The magazine also has a strong digital platform that appeals more to the technology-driven generation. Millennials and Generation Z U.S. citizens are the main target audience for my magazine because I am focused on advocating travel among young adults in the state of Florida. Although the magazine could largely appeal to any millennial in the U.S. wanting to travel in Florida, the support base is focused on within the state traveling by road trip because that would be more convenient. Fashion, beauty, entertainment, and politics are all major components that makes Glamour a largely appealing magazine to a wide range of millennials which I could work into my magazine. This magazine largely aims at my target audience of young women. My travel magazine will largely appeal to the female demographic like Teen Vogue because as a young woman, I relate more to that demographic and would not be as effective trying to appeal to a male audience. Focusing on female young adults like Glamour is the perfect target audience for my magazine. I will incorporate politics, entertainment, travel news and currents events all into my magazine. It will not be one that just focuses on hot spots around the state and massive advertising like most travel magazines. The magazine's page advocating for advertisers claims "1 in 8 American women fill their lives with Glamour."

Production Research: Seventeen Magazine Target Audience

Seventeen Magazine is a magazine targeted at young females aged 13-19 years old. Although the magazine is called "Seventeen", it is clear the magazine sets out to attract young teen females through covering social issues, beauty, fashion, celebrity entertainment, and a variety of other topics. This magazine is extremely versatile and contains advice for young women throughout each issue, along with strategic advertising that is prevalent throughout the magazine. The magazine is all about promoting self-confidence. The magazine is an integral media source of information to manufacturers seeking guidance on how to satisfy consumer demand among teenagers. The magazine is internationally distributed. There are varying issues the magazine distributes even to the Eastern hemisphere, including countries such as Malaysia and Japan. The marketing towards female teens with the large majority of its teens - over 3 million readers - being females between the ages of 12 and 21. Only over 200,000 of their readers are actually males, thus the marketing plan for Seventeen magazine is not aimed towards males. The price of the physical magazine has increased over the years, as its target audience has made enough money to afford more expensive magazines. They also offer an annual subscription-plan that is more appealing to audiences because of it makes the overall price of 12 magazines more less inexpensive than spending about $4 on every issue.

Reflection: Feedback and Revisions

After receiving 1-on-1 feedback from Mr. Elsbree regarding how to improve my midterm submission, he recommended I make 5 major revisions to my magazine excerpt.

1. Add page numbers that would include branding for the magazine to the pages of the article.
2. Separate the text of my article into several columns.
3. Justify the text of my article.
4. Move my photos so they do not interfere with the text of my article.
5. Utilize the empty spaces on my cover page and table of contents page by adding either text or photos.

These are all revisions that I will make to my magazine excerpt during the 3rd quarter before the "3rd Quarter Submission" is due. Additionally, I plan to update the content of my article to make sure it is as interesting as possible. I also plan to research which form of branding will be most efficient to include in my magazine.

Draft: Midterm Submission

This is the first draft of my magazine excerpt that I am posting for my midterm assessment in class. I created all of these pages using Microsoft Word because that is the program that I am most comfortable using. Microsoft Word has all of the necessary digital elements to create my excerpt, such as photo editing options, text boxes, and elegant fonts.

3. What is a place in Sarasota you think deserves more attention?
4. Are there any thrilling experiences you have experienced in Sarasota that you would like to share?
5. How does Sarasota compare to other travel spots in Florida?

Planning: Cover Design Template

I created this cover page using Microsoft Word. I chose this photo of Siesta Key Beach for the front cover because of its vibrant colors and appearance of public support with the crowd of people surrounding the shore. The red lifeguard tower on the right side of the photo and the afternoon sun fading out from the left side of the photo are eye-catching because I utilized the rule-of-thirds camera technique.

Planning: Marina Jack Photo Shoot

Today, I went to Marina Jack/Bayfront Park around 3:00 PM for a photo shoot. I took about 50 photos of the park right when the sun was still shining high in the sky. I used a Canon PowerShot SX150 IS with 14.1 megapixels. These are the 5 best photos I took, which are unedited. I have decided to use these photos and the Siesta Key photos for the magazine without editing because they are already aesthetically-pleasing to my eyes.
